Are you okay? Liam says Owen is with you.

Hannah had texted her friends while waiting for the police. They had wanted to drop everything and rush to her side, but she’d convinced them to stay at the camp and keep working, since she was okay. They had quickly asked her if she thought it was Ryan. She’d replied that she wasn’t sure, but the woman was on top of her list of suspects.

“Did you tell your brothers?” she asked.

“Yes, I called them on the way over to you. Just to keep an eye out for anything there,” he said, and she realized she hadn’t thought of the possibility of Ryan going to the camp and doing something to her friends.

“You don’t think Ryan would go back to the camp, do you? We have a restraining order . . .”

“No.” He reached over and touched her shoulder just as her phone rang.

“It’s Elle.” She sighed and answered the call.

By the time they had pulled into the camp’s parking lot, she had fully explained what had happened twice—once to Elle and another time to Aubrey, who agreed to fill in the other two.

“Looks like Liam is waiting to take me back.” He parked next to his brother’s car.

“Thanks for driving me out here,” she said, reaching over and placing a soft kiss on his lips before grabbing the door handle. She was very thankful he’d been there for her. She’d wanted some time to gather her emotions before seeing her friends.

“I’ve got another meeting this week. I’m closing on that property I was telling you about,” he said, stopping her from exiting the car.

“You’re going to go ahead and build the neighborhood?” she asked, the note forgotten as she thought about the new possibilities.

“Yes, the board thought it was a great idea. A ‘solid financial plan,’” he said, air quoting.

“That’s really great.” She leaned across her car and hugged him. “I’m sure once your dad comes back that he’s going to be so proud.”

“Oh, I’m sure of it.” His smile changed a little. “If he comes back.”

“Do you really think that he’s hiding to protect you?” she asked.

“I’m beginning to have some serious thoughts in that direction. I know you have to get back to work, but I hope you were serious about spending your days off with me next week.”

“Yes, I bought some new outfits.” She leaned closer and licked her lips. “Some things you can take your time peeling off me.”

“My god, do you think we have some time for me to go in—”

Just then his brother knocked on the glass, stopping Owen’s wandering hands, and he groaned. “Scratch that. Give us a minute,” he barked as he opened the door.

Liam chuckled. “Easy. Don’t kill the messenger. Zoey and Elle are waiting for Hannah on the stairs. They have some news.”

“Okay.” Owen shut the door on his brother, causing her to laugh. “Damn, I don’t know if I can wait until then.” He pulled her close and kissed her; then, just as quickly as he’d grabbed her up, he released her.
